My partner was contacted by someone claiming to be from Codiak Biosciences for a remote entry-level data entry position paying $35 an hour. After doing a text-based interview (red flag #1) he received an email ([email protected]) saying that he had been accepted for the position. He was prompted to sign an employment offer and received a second attachment that explained that he would get funds that he would need to use to buy computer equipment (red flag #2). Another person claiming to be from Codiak Biosciences named Lisa L ([email protected]) sent him an email requesting that he complete a written assessment. The language in the email was odd and overly formal, but with no spelling errors. After he completed the assessment, he received an email with a PDF of a check for approximately $4000 USD and was instructed to print the PDF, cut out the check, endorse it, deposit the check, and then email them when this task was finished. At this point we knew it was a scam, so he blocked the contacts. I am writing this so that other people don't fall for the scam. It appears that these scammers are using a real company (Codiak Biosciences filed for Chapter 11 last month) and real people (Lisa L is a real person, but not affiliated with Codiak Biosciences) to fake legitimacy.

I applied via LinkedIn for a Data Entry Clerk position,

Was contacted via email by Lisa Lohnes,

Was prompted to have an interview via Ring Central

After the Interview I was asked for my name, address, and phone number.

I never sent it, but the next day I was sent an email from "hr" stating that I was being hired and to sign a contract.

My questions have been left unanswered and the phone for the company is offline, because the company went bankrupt in March of this year.
