A woman identifying herself as Linda Longshore contacted me first via text message about a job I had applied to for data entry. I told her that she needed to contact me through my preferred form of contact which was email. She contacted me through my email and described the job to me, later on she confirmed I was a good fit and sent an offer letter after some questions. It was a real looking offer letter where I had to sign at the end. She then proceeded to send me a link to a portal where she gave me my user name and password. It looked very legit. She told me to download telegram and that’s when the red flags began to surface. I downloaded the app and entertained it for a little because I had already experienced another scam on telegram so I knew this one was probably the same. After entertaining it for a little she stated the company was going to send me a check for me to purchase my work from home equipment. At that point I decided to stop because I was not risking losing money. She had already asked for some of my personal information over email which I unfortunately gave. I have been applying for remote jobs for a while and it’s crazy the amount of scams there are for remote jobs. I wish these apps like ******, ********, etc. would conduct verifications so people would not suffer the consequences of falling for fake companies trying to steal people’s personal information and money.
