This all started as a text message from Alyssa Becker asking me to email [email protected] to set up an interview for a remote Administrative Assistant. I didn't have any recollection of applying for this position but I have applied to so many jobs in the last week I may have. So I email Alyssa to set up a time for next week. I get an email back stating that the interview was set up for today. I was to contact Krysten Huggins via "Wire" (kind of like WhatsApp). So I sent her a message and I got suspicious when it got to the pay. $45/per hour for someone who hasn't been an Administrative Assistant in 5 years is insane.

This is the entire conversation:

Before we begin, I would like to apprise you that we are sorry about our unseemly approach; if this Interview conducting method is unprofessional or if you are new to all this. Still, the world is constantly advancing, so staying on top is essential as change is inevitable.

I'll admit that I've never done an interview chat before but you're correct, the world is changing.

I would love to introduce myself to you and learn more about you. That would help categorize you and how best to interview you. I'm Krysten Huggins, One of the Hiring Managers of Ascot Consulting Engineers. I am here to brief you and solicit more about the opening position; This is a step-by-step process. I'm Katie Goddard. I live in Tennessee. I am an experienced Administrative Assistant, though I haven't worked as one in a few years.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: Administrative tasks Updating client information in computer system Running and processing multiple documents utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access Inputting purchase orders Other various administrative tasks, Inputs information from a variety of sources into a computer database. Verifying, correcting, deleting unnecessary data, or combining data from several sources before entering into a file, entering information into specific files or forms from recorded material, and checking completed work for errors or duplicate information before submitting the final product. Assignments will be sent to you via email daily. Can you handle that?

Good, Tell me about yourself and describe your relationship with your current or most recent Manager.

Katie

I have had more than 20 years of administrative/customer service experience. I am highly organized, loyal , hard working and would give 100% to Ascot. As for my relationship with my former manager, let's just say that it wasn't a good relationship.

When are you available to start if hired?

What are your words per minute speed? What is the accuracy value that you have at that speed?

Katie

It has been a long time since I took a timed test so I'm not sure of the speed, but I am confident that what I do type is accurate.

Krysten

Give me examples of what you've done with Excel or a spreadsheet. How often did you export Excel into PowerPoint graphics?

Katie

I actually haven't done much with PowerPoint. I have created and maintained numerous spreadsheets using Excel.

Krysten

What do you understand about an organization's privacy and the code of conduct?

Katie

I understand that an organization's privacy and code of conduct is something that needs to be followed. It is in place to protect not only the company but the clients as well.

Krysten

We like to think of ourselves as a team that works together towards the same goals at this company. How do you feel about working in a team environment?

Katie

I love working in a team environment

After the orientation and training, you would schedule an appointment to meet with a representative from the company to sign the forms you will need to complete, including eligibility to work forms, tax withholding forms, and company-specific paperwork.

Good... You will undergo three days of training and orientation, which will commence as soon as you have all the working materials.

Below is the Software and Time Tracker needed to commence training and orientation and be equipped to start work. The work of the time tracker is to calculate your hours worked since you would be working from home.

Here are the names of the software you will need to start working with Peachtree Complete Accounting Software, Sage Simply Accounting Software, Microsoft Excel 8 2016, Microsoft Word 11 2015, MySQL 5 2011, PHP 5 2011, UNIX 2 2005, XML 5 2007, Vendor Management 7 2018, MacBook Pro 19

How will I obtain all these materials?

Krysten

The funds you need to buy/order these materials will be available. When the funds get to you, you must buy/order the necessary materials online or locally around you and be ready for orientation and training. Is that clear?

and how will I be receiving these funds

Krysten

Via Cashier's check or direct deposit

Katie

Ok, Cashier's check is preferable

Krysten

Orientation would be done on Zoom and via phone. Schedule a meeting with a representative from the company during the orientation and training to sign the necessary paperwork and tax form, after which you can start work fully.

All right, it's been nice talking to you. Endeavor to report to me via chat tomorrow by 9 am your Time for an update and instruction on the funds for your working materials.
