I was utilizing an app called roommate to find housing. I saw an ad listed on this app and responded to the profile supposedly by the name of Mary. “Mary” then “passed” me along to who she claimed to be the dad. After receiving a text message from “the dad” my app mysteriously stopped working and I was unable to log in. I didn’t think anything of it at first but then received a Correspondence from a Georgia number claiming to rent a California home. He was eager to rent with almost little to no information from me, the potential tenant. I was aware this may have been a scam and played along to collect evidence. He used pictures from another rental page and also could not provide basic information about the property. He also claims to “not be social” and “won’t be around much”. Grammar was very poor gave me the impression I was emailing a child. Sent me a “lease” agreement document that was evidently forged clear as day. I am fortunate enough to have the wits about me to detect these sorts of things. Hope I can prevent others from being scammed in the future. I already did the research and this property is actually owned by tenant planet. Inc. he claimed the rent was 1,000. $800 below the market rental price listed on the actual website as well as accredited rental sites
