I used the voice search on my phone to pull up the Kahler Hotel, which I had stayed at on a previous trip to Mayo Clinic. A Kahler Hotel site came up with an 833 toll free number, which I pressed to call. They answered asking what booking at the Kahler could they help me with. I gave them my dates and after a pause, they said there were no rooms available but they could book me in another hotel close by. My Mayo appointment was already set so I agreed. They then asked if I wanted cancellation insurance, and I asked what it was for. They answered it would guarantee my money back for cancelling right up to check-in day. I asked what the normal cancellation policy was and they said 3 days prior to stay. I turned down the insurance. 30 minutes later I looked up the Kahler web site on my computer and saw a 507 area code with a direct line. I called and made a reservation. I then went to my confirmation email from the prior booking and saw it was from a company called Hotel Lodging and when I cancelled it I was sent a notice a 30% fee would be kept for the booking and that this policy had been explained clearly to me at booking. They purposely misled me twice. Once by answering as if they were the Kahler, and secondly by not explaining the withholding fee for a cancellation without their insurance. I called the company twice and was told an additional credit would be issued and it didn't happen either time, so I disputed it with Amex. Unfortunately, their cancellation policy in writing (which I wasn't aware of until after the booking) trumped my oral conversations. Try calling the 833 number above and then try to book a room at the Kahler If this is legal, it shouldn't be. Thank you. Bill Nusbaum 920-371-6385
