Hope for Orphans Reports & Reviews (1)

Last week Tuesday afternoon, I was contacted through Twitter, by someone claiming to be the Christian singer, Michael W. Smith. After a gracious conversation regarding different troubles I was having and praying for them, "Michael" asked me how have I decided to work for the Lord this year. I proceeded to tell "him" that I felt that I already was "right where I was needed", but he told me to reach out to a christian organization called "Hope for Orphans" and that they were in a financial crisis. He sent me the email address in which to reach them. I tried the address and no one replied back. Then on Thursday, "Michael" got back to me and wondered if I had tried to reach out to this group to "sew my seeds of faith" or in other words make my cash donation. I told him that no one replied to the several attempts I had made. After praying with me some more, he told me to get back in touch with him after I sew my seeds of faith.

Early Friday morning, I received and email from a "Bridgette", who was the leader of the ministry and thanked me for reaching out to them to give a donation, however due to their lack of funds, their website couldn't accept cash donations- so I was to use western union or moneygram to send them my donation. I told that now being it was Friday I was working the weekend and would gladly send a donation as soon as I could, I received two more messages from "Bridgette" regarding my donation.

Over this passed weekend, I kept thinking over this past week and felt the something really did feel "off" and asked several friends at work and they said, 1# Christian ministries such as the singer Michael W. Smith, wouldn't contact any fan in person and ask them to send money, 2# Anytime you want to donate to an charity and they ask you to use an email website like "Western Union" or "MoneyGram" to send them the donation, there is a problem.

I then thought about the person who claimed to be "Michael W. Smith" and this person's demeanor didn't add up. They seemed too "religious" and that how much I'm willing to give is the only way to do God's work- which is completely absurd. In addition, I have seen the actual Michael in concerts and in various videos to know that the real Michael is a God- fearing man, who truly grounded and at times a goof-ball. It's my belief that someone hacked the real Michael W. Smith's twitter account to prey on fans who are Christian and compelled to "step out in faith". BUT: Meek does not mean weak!

I am contacting you today to inform you of these incidents and hope that you can track down these people and keep them from trying to con good God fearing people out of money that if it is to be given to a charity, that actually goes to a charity. I am thankful, I didn't give anything, but I'm praying that others don't fall into the same trap.
