I received a letter in the mail notifying me that my home owner's insurance was due to expire and I needed to take immediate action. I called and the representative stated that my coverage would expire unless I acted today. They even provided me with a discount code. I paid for the insurance premium and then setup automatic payments for the monthly payments. The intial payment was $295.00 and then $130.00 a month following (which ended up actually being $202.00 with fees when I finally received additional paperwork in the mail). I had no idea that this was not my insurance carrier. My husband recently passed away and he took care of all of our bills. Later in the month, I was contacted by my car insurance carrier. I know this company and they are local. I was speaking with the carrier and discovered that they are my home owner's insurance carrier. I was shocked. I explained what had happened to me. My insurance carrier informed me that the mail I had received was a scam. I contacted my bank and closed the account I used to setup automatic payments. I was not able to get my inital payment back but can prevent future payments from being withdrawn from my account. I want other people to be aware of this scam. Beware of anything from HomeWizard notifying you that your insurance is going to be canceled. They pressure you over the phone to setup payments and make it seem like the coverage is already in place and will expire soon.
