My husband and I have a house in Cape Coral, FL. Our house was flooded in the Ian hurricane. We have a pool that needed to be cleaned and some lanai pool screens replaced that blew out in the storm. Darren Cowle said he would clean our pool and repair/replace our screens. My husband was desperate for help, so he hired him a week or so after the storm. The fee was going to be $800 to clean the pool and $920 for prepayment on the screen material for the lanai. Darren sent a couple of guys who attempted to clean the pool, but they did a terrible job. When he said someone would come, they never would when we were told they would. They drained our pool twice and never cleaned the debris (mud, silt, and palm fronds...etc...) from the bottom of the pool. They job was abandoned, and my husband ended up finishing the job by pumping mud himself from out of the pool. When we started to realize that the pool was job was a total disaster, we decided to fire Darren and asked for the money back on the screens we prepaid for which was $920. Darren said he would pay us back but they we kept getting excuse after excuse on why he couldn't pay us. He was in the hospital, or his wife was hit by a car, or his daughter was sick, or they person he had bought the material for our screen repair scammed him. We have so many texts messages going back and forth with every excuse under the sun. He would say he had the money and then last minute couldn't stop by to pay us. We paid him in full $1,720 dollars in advance via Venmo. He could have repaid us back the very same way and never did he come through. We also know of two other people that paid Darren in advance. One of our friends paid Darren $2,000 for screen material/repair and another lost even more, close to $8,000 (that person I believe is suing). Even though we were extremely unsatisfied with the pool clean job, we were only asking for the money back $920 for the screen prepayment. Darren never started the job, and we never got any money back from him. We've tried to reach out to him again as of a week ago but now we don't get any response from him at all. We filed a report with the police and they said it's a civil case so there wasn't much they could do for us. I also filed a report with the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation but got a letter back that our allegations do not fall within the DBPR's jurisdiction. In other words we would have to take Darren to court. We lost so much in the hurricane and learned the hard way about scammers that are out there taking advantage of people like us. Not sure if this will make much difference by reporting it now to the ScamPulse.com but people need to be aware of this guy.
