Hill Electric Co. Spoof Reports & Reviews (1)

I recently joined a business that sells products and have a website. I was contacted via the website with a request to purchase some items for a daughter for her wedding, but the person stated no credit card so wanted to send me a cashier's check or money order for the products. Products never ordered until check would be received. Person contacted me via email initially then text. Received a check from an electric company in a neighboring state. Check was for $1836.00 more than products wishing to order - explained by financial person combining products with wedding planner fee. Person then wanted remaining funds returned via Zelle or Apple Pay. Another check from same company and same amount ($2150) received about 3 days later. Person states she lives in North Carolina, daughter lives in NC with address in Cherryville, check from company in South Carolina, and I live in Wisconsin.

I contacted Hill Electric and they responded saying that their bank had been hacked and checks were being mailed all over the country. The checks are fraudulent adn they have filed a police report. I contacted my bank regarding the check that I deposited. Still receiving texts from the scammer.
