"John Brown " calls and says he's a senior technician for Windows. He says their equipment has alerted them that my computer has been hacked. He asks me to sit in front of my computer and turn it on. He asks for my permission to follow his prompts so that he can scan my computer and show me all the viruses that are in it. Finally, he tells me that he can fix my computer if I buy one of two plans which cost $100 for a 5-year plan or $150 for a lifetime plan. When I declined to purchase a plan, he told me that he would "block" my computer and make it useless. He did in fact do that. When I called the number from which he called me (510 936-6938), the manager Jack Roser, told me no one named John Brown works for him. Another number they use is 800-347-9066. Another name they use is James Winters. They all speak with Nigerian accents. In essence, they are holding my computer hostage , refusing to give me a startup code if I don't purchase their virus protection pkg. Beware.
