The job applicant experience was for a remote job application through the HelloTeam website (originally found on the ZipRecruiter job board site) and the scammer was trying to use personal information to access ID.me + IRS services through a text to verify my identity. He stated it was the company's policy to click for his email to have control, and you would need to take a selfie to verify your identity as the next step. He said this would verify my ID as a job applicant. He used a jotform application form to collect the personal information that an email before said we received your resume (I sent an application). After I applied twice to the position, once on ZipRecruiter and a second on the company's website, an email was sent to me saying they received my resume for each time and to email this HR Rep with a code to apply. Thankfully, ID.me has protective steps to warn users of a potential identity theft and the ID.me text link he tried to use, lets you choose an option that you do not have control of the listed email (the scammer used peterpadorano@outlook account, not even the [email protected] used in the original communication that the resume was received email) to which the prompt said unauthorized access and denied the scammer any further steps. Let alone the phone number he had used google voicemail so I could not call him as I tried because it went straight to voicemail but I texted him to call me and he did. He did not explain things well to the questions I had. This instance was reported to ZipRecruiter (the job post is off of it as is the job post is not on HelloTeam site anymore). ZipRecruiter has an email to report instances. Also reported the instance to ID.me and now here. Job searches are enough then to battle with scammers. The red flag was the email back from the sent jotform application form that the "HR" representative said he needed. It had outlook accounts in the security info at the top. HelloTeam looked legitimate on their site. That odd communication with the rep was not okay. No one needs access to another's IRS information online. Report where possible so others do not run into this.
