My daughter attempted to purchase a doberman puppy that she found online at healthdoberman.com. She filled out an online application and was approved to adopt/purchase the puppy. She emailed the "breeder" and was instructed to pay $950. She provided her debit card info over the phone to the individual. The next day, the person called my daughter asking for a $1500 refundable deposit for the shipping crate that the dog was getting shipped in. She was to pay this through Cash App. The person told her that her puppy would be shipped via plane from Texas to Vermont and would be arriving later that evening. No additional information was provided, no puppy arrived and the "breeder" has not answered any calls or responded to any emails/texts from my daughter. She has now lost almost $2500, and the bank and Cash App have stated that they are unlikely to retrieve any of the lost funds.

I was looking for Doberman puppies in Raleigh, NC. This website came up. Healthy Doberman the site looked reputable. So I filled out the online info for the puppy I was interested in and shortly there after I got an email and a text. They ask to answer questions so they would be sure you would be eligible to purchase a puppy. So several emails later and texts later I just felt uneasy about the whole thing. I live in NC and they were in Austin Tx and they would even ship the dog. I actually did talk to the guy who said his name was Joseph Scott. I ask him to send me an updated picture of the puppy. But he was more interested in how I was going to pay for the puppy. What really made me suspicious was when he suggested using Zelle an app you can use to transfer money or use cashapp. So I did a search using the phone number 737-404-1225 and found out they were on the scammers list. It had their name on the list and described what they were doing. The address they used 7201 Levander Loop, Austin, Tx 78702 was actually the Austin Animal Center. Unfortunately, I gave them our address and phone number but not any banking info.

After inquiring about purchasing a puppy and sending several very detailed emails back and forth including the exact puppy I was getting, it’s name, age, 2 yr health guarantee, food & toys, registration papers and travel crate, where and how it would be delivered and the cost of shipping. I was then given a contract. The contract was simple and thorough including all of the info we already covered. I was told in writing that the puppy would be delivered to my home within 24-48 hours of payment. I signed the agreement and was asked to make payment via Zelle or cash app. I chose Zelle and asked for the email/phone number to use. I was sent two. When confused by this I was told their accountant was off that week and to use the second one. I sent the money as per our contract and got confirmation it was received. I was told I would receive shipping and tracking info next. The next morning I was informed that the dog was picked up but the shipping company required $1800 to use some kind of crate, but it was a rental and would be reimbursed. I told them that was not the agreement and they either needed to send me the dog on their dime or reimburse me fully. They said they would research other options and get back to me with shipping info. They then stopped answering emails and the phone went straight to voicemail. While I will fight this financially the biggest damage I’m currently feeling is emotional. I followed the rules, asked questions, got a contract and was still scammed. I’m crushed.
