I joined a couple of Facebook private group sites: (1) Havanese puppies available for rehoming (2) Havanese puppies for adoption & rehoming. I felt this was safe due the large number of members. First, I reached out to the Havanese puppies for adoption & rehoming. One of the administrators John Mack posted he had some puppies. He asked me to private message him, which I did. I felt very uncomfortable with the interaction and stopped. I then when to the Havanese puppies available for rehoming page and again one of the administrators, Aime Merveille posted puppies. I messaged this person and felt much better about the interaction. Total amount was told to me and there was a down payment to hold the dog, as we were going out of town. I paid this via Venmo. We had agreed to a time to meet to have the dog delivered to a location between 12-1 pm on 11/16. I had not heard anything and the morning of the 16th, I asked if this was still the plan. There was a big push to get my email and name, which was stated it was needed for the registration. I was getting uneasy, as it was about 1030am and it is a 3 1/2 hr drive from their location. Then I get an email from a "supposed" shipper. I searched their website and became very suspicious. I asked to speak to someone and was given 502-354-8460. Well then, more chaos. They said the dog would arrive at 6pm, regular shipping and I needed to pay $100, express shipping $200 to be there by 3pm. I told them I was not pay any more money, this was the responsibility of the breeder. Through a text message from the same number, I told them to cancel this order and to return it to the breeder. They said that when they returned it when they were done delivering the other shipments, later in the evening. I sent a note to the breeder and asked for the return of the $300. Then comes the threats of court, next I messaged the shipper as the dog supposedly had not been returned to the breeder. They then threatened more. I do have screen shots of all of the interactions. I have reported both sites to Facebook, but not sure what else I can do. Big lesson learned, but trying to get my money back and hope others do not get caught in this same mess!
