An Arabian man in riverside California pulled up in an SUV with his family claiming they needed money and that they were out of gas and needed to get home (lived out of state). I wanted to help him because his child was crying and I genuinely felt bad. I gave him 50 dollars first when he then began crying and offering his jewelry on a count of his religion. I told him I didn’t feel right accepting it. Then he told me the amount of money I gave him might not last and asked began handing me jewelry and BEGGING for more money. He had me cornered with his car where I couldn’t continue to walk to class so I had no where to go. He told me how much the jewelry was worth and I gave him all that I could because I felt so bad. I am a historian and particularly study middle eastern life and have studied abroad so when he brought his religion into it I felt this was VERY serious. Honestly very sad and ashamed :-/ On a count of how much I gave him, I only have 200 dollars to survive until my next financial aid disbursement :(
