Halo Bioventures scam

I was contacted by Benjamin Stein via text from 334-200-7486 supposedly from Halo Bioventures. He had me download Signal Messenger and contact Stephanie Seffernick at 617-286-6461 for an interview. Did the interview, was told I got the job. It was too good to be true: work from home, set your own hours, medical, dental, vision, 401k, $24.30/hr which is high for this type of job in my area. They said they would mail me a check to buy equipment from their trusted partner. Then it got weirder. They then emailed me a copy of a check, front and back, from Eco Bay Services out of San Francisco for $4850, and told me to mobile deposit it and let them know when that was done. I called California Bank of Commerce, where the check was from but they told me to call my own bank. I called Wells Fargo and told them everything and they said this is definitely a scam, and the next step would be for them to ask for some of the money back, after purchasing the equipment. Unfortunately I already filled out the W-4 form before realizing they were scammers, so I went to Experian and locked my credit report. Hopefully that's good enough!
