This is the email we received via our website form. We were nominated for the WXXV Viewer's Choice Awards, so we were very excited to see this at first. I became suspicious after seeing the website listed as "Gulf Port" instead of one word, Gulfport. Also, they wanted $149 for a plaque and up to $229 for both the plaque and trophy. I called the TV station to verify, and they said that if we were the winner, there wouldn't be a fee for the award, nor would they use a third-party company to contact us. Just something to keep in mind if you are phished with this same scam.

"I'm writing to you today on behalf of the Gulfport Award Program. We're the organization that puts on the annual "Best of Gulfport Award", and I'm pleased to inform you that your company has been selected as the winner in the category of General contractor.

I know we've tried to reach you a few times before, but we've finally been able to get in touch with you through your website contact form. We wanted to make sure you were aware of this exciting news as soon as possible.

We've included a link to our website below that more fully describes your recognition. We hope you'll look at it and share it with your staff.
