Offered employment as a remote working employee was sent a link to a website to register a s an employee and heard nothing back

- Lawrenceville, GA, USA • Jun 20, 2023

I was contacted about a remote Data Entry Clerk job opportunity by a person named Katherine Williams. Long Story short, I was hired and received an offer letter. I even received login information for a company account. She was going to help me with the onboarding process so she made me download Telegram. She then stated that they would send me a check so I can order the equipment for my home office. The check was sent from an email [email protected] with the name Samuel Walker. This check was for $950.00. Katherine told me to send the check to someone who worked at KIK Office Supplies. I sent the money via ZELLE to [email protected] and the transaction shows the name Isleen Graham as the recipient. Katherine then told me that they would send another check for more office equipment. This check was for $1,260.00. She told me to send it to that Isleen person again, however, Zelle did not allow me. So Katherine made me send the money to a number 773 766 1507, this recipient was registered as Laquita.

Katherine told me my start date would be June 21st. However, on June 19th, I messaged Katherine on telegram for information regarding the onboarding process and she did not respond. On June 20th, I checked Telegram to see if Katherine responded and she erased and wiped all of our messages. When I tried to enter her information to find her on telegram again, the name Lauren Stephens shows up.

I had a feeling this offer was too good to be true. I sent a friend the information I received to confirm that this might've been a scammer. He confirmed by sending me the link to this page (Scam ID 717150). Word for word, everything I was reading from this report was exactly what I went through, with the same names involved (Katherine Williams, Glenn Dasher), and how the conversations went. Fortunately for me, I found out before the step where they wanted me to supply them with my information over for the employee portal. I stopped replying from there and will now block the e-mail address.

My case was identical to the one listed for guardianprobiotics.org, but they have not yet asked me for money.

Got a text from someone called Katherine Williams from guardian probiotics INC. for a data entry clerk position. Paying $27 took some test and filled out some personal information also was asked to provide bank name that I use. Didn’t hear nothing back during the weekend until Monday and was sent an offer letter with the name of Glenn Dasher and I had to sign and send back but once I read that they would send me a check bc everyone was working from home and there was no one in office to send me my equipment I knew it was 100% a scam!

Katherine Williams reached out via text about a job application that i never sent, asked for a resume and sent a link to take an assessment. I was never interviewed and i was offered the position at $27/hr after training for a remote data entry position. The offer letter was sent and instead of wanting to send equipment; they would send a check instead to purchase the equipment. They wanted to know what bank i used right away.

I was contacted by a person claiming to be Katherine Williams, a HR assistant for Guardian Probiotics. She contacted me about a remote data entry job with pay rate of $27/hr. I was contacted by text message an asked to send my resume to [email protected]. Once I sent my resume she emailed and said that she was impressed with my qualifications and wanted me to fill out two forms to assess my fit for the role and the company. The first form was an Microsoft information form basically just standard things like name, email, phone number. The only weird question on that form that raised some suspicion was a question about what is the name of my bank I use (not banking info just the name of the bank) to make sure it would work with their payroll systems. The other form was an interview questionnaire. There was a mixture of free response and multiple choice interview style questions with some being timed and other not. Once I submitted both forms I was notified the next morning over text and email that they made a decision quicker than anticipated and I was offered the job. The email even had a formal offer letter attached that I was to sign and return. The offer letter was addressed from the COO of Guardian Probiotics, Glenn Dasher. Part of the letter stated that the company would send me a check for office supplies to get started working from home and that Ms Williams, my original HR contact would walk me through that process of ordering the required supplies through the company approved vendor. I signed and returned the offer letter to Katherine Williams who then informed me to supply her with the following information so that she could register me on their employee portal:

Your Full Name

Gender

DOB

Current home address + Apt#, if any

City, State & Zip code

Direct Cell

Preferred email address

I supplied the information and was given the login info for the employee portal located at https://guardianprobiotics.org/employeeportal/public. My login username was my first name . first initial of last name @guardianprobiotics.org. I was told to try to login to make sure everything worked on my end. I was able to login into the portal and see what looked like a pretty normal employee portal with the information, a message welcoming on stating that I would fill out my W4 on my start date in a week, and even the ability to submit leave requests. Ms Williams also informed me that I would need to set up a telegram account to communicate with the company until my home office was set up at which time I would be able to communicate over company email (I was lead to believe this was for privacy and security reasons). I informed Ms Williams that I created the telegram account and she told me to send her a message at the following link: t.me/kat_williams. This account had a profile picture and a bio that stated HR Assistant, which matched everything I knew of Katherine Williams. I was send a message and a video from Ms Williams welcoming me on board. The woman in the video matched the profile picture of the account but the video was strange though you could tell she was clearly reading a prompt and weirdly emphasizing words (not talking how normal people talk). She then messaged resting how she was going to be the one to walk me through the onboarding process and that we would start with getting me the necessary office equipment. Ms Williams claimed that checks to remote employees had been getting lost in the mail recently and that the accounting department advised to send checks over secure email going forward (major alarm bells now ringing), but that would require me to have a mobile app for my bank. She asked if I did have a mobile app for my bank. I replied that I did but wanted to understand more about how I would be purchasing the equipment since I read in the offer letter that their was a company approved vendor. She then restated that she would assist me through the whole process. I said that is great and asked again how the process will work? At this point she stopped responding to me. I was 99% sure it was a scam but the 1% that really needs a job was hoping it was real. I did a bunch or research because I was determined to find out 100% either way and came across a bunch of similar stories but with other company and HR personnel names but the companies were all in the bio science/pharmaceutical/therapeutics fields. It was when i came across one talking about a Kristen Robinson from metcuretherapeutics.com that I knew it was 100% a scam. The person reporting Kristen Robinson provided the telegram link they were given (https://t.me/kristen_robinson) and when I clicked on that link it brought me to a telegram account with the same exact profile picture and bio as my HR person with the name Katherine Williams.

Applied to a "data entry clerk" position. Completed a test that I failed. I emailed and asked to redo. They offered me a contract anyways. The contract had interesting typos in it and perhaps poor English Language patterns. The also sent a follow-up email where I filled out which bank I had because they said they needed check if it was "compatible with their payroll" It said they would have to send me a check for office equipment but I would have to use the money to purchase from their approve vendor. This is when I decided to report them.
