Grand Riviera Resorts Reports & Reviews (1)

I received a phone call a few years ago where I was told I had won a vacation to Cancun. They wanted $700 to book the package. I was told it would be all inclusive. They said I could book a second vacation for more money. I told them I would book it if I got the two vacations for $700. They told me they would give me that deal and took my money by credit card.

They never once told me on the phone, or in the voucher I received that I would need to make $75,000 + a year in order to book the reservation. However, when I tried to book it this week I was told that I was requred to make $75,000 or more or I could not claim the package and book my trip. As I said, I was never told this prior to me trying to make the reservation. I told them I did not make near that much, and they proceeded to tell me that I could lie to the resort and tell them I made that much and they would help me book the resort. I told them I was not willing to lie, and they told me everybody lies, even church priests. Then they proceeded to tell me that I could not book the reservation unless I had a major credit card. I told them I did not use credit cards, and so they told me II could not book the trip.I had already paid the $700 up front for the trip.. I did not understand why I would now need to open a new major credit card. Even though I felt uneasy about this, I went ahead and applied for a credit card, then called them back and told them I had been approved. They proceeded to tell me the hotel I wanted was already booked, and they told me to hold and they would see what they could do. They never came back to my call, but I could hear this same women talking in the background to another customer telliing them the same thing about how they would need to lie to the resort about how much money they made, but it would be ok because the resort would only ask us over the phone how much we made, and not require any verification. At this point I realized I had fallen for a sketchy scam and I hung up. I lost my $700, but I guess that is better than buying plane tickets and getting to Cancun only to find i had no where to stay with a legitimate reservation
