This all happened shortly after my husband passed away. I got an instant message from my "husband's cousin" on FB telling me to check them out. She said she got $200,000 and her daughter got $100,000 and to contact them. She sent me $900 in gift cards to send to him, with pictures front and back. His name is Shawn A Buckley. He asked me what I would do with the money. I told him I would go on vacation. He told me he believed in God, and that God wanted me to have this money. He said he needed to raise the money to pay the carrier's delivery fees. He asked me to buy Apple cards from CVS. Then he switched to Walmart Money cards. I bought them all from the same Walmart. The clerk never asked me about the cards. He said some of the cards didn't have any money on them, and I needed to replace them. He told me at one point that he was in the hospital on life support. He told me their van caught fire and they wouldn't be able to deliver. Another time he said the van was stopped by the cops. And another time a daughter was in the hospital and it couldn't be delivered. This was all done through text, I never talked to him. The whole time the "cousin" was assuring me it was real. I told him I was a police officer, and he told me I could contact his attorney.

A friend of mine from fb messaged me and said that if I heard anything about the good news and I said what good news? She said the federal government is giving grants out to those who are eligible and qualify and she thought of me of all people I was thinking why me? I told her I don’t think I would be eligible because I never get anything or do I get approved for anything and I don’t have any money to do anything at all. She says no you don’t have to pay anything at all, that’s where the lie comes in. She gave me the agent number information and told me to text him from his personal number and then said message her back right away as soon as I did that and I’m like thinking okay??? So I texted the guy he said his name is Patrick Peter and my friend gave me the bs thing that he is a man of GOD like don’t give me that bull crap, there’s only one. So this guy asked me for a lot of personal information and said congratulations I’m approved and said that I would be approved for 30,000$ and I’m like isn’t it $30,000 why did he put the $ sign at the end of the numbers? And then comes to my surprise out of nowhere he says I need to pay $500 clearance fee I told him I don’t have that kind of money and he says when will you have the money to pay and I said I never will I have no income and he didn’t understand me at all, he said you must try all means to get the money so you can get your grant bs so he says you can give me as low as 300$ then he says will that work for you I said that’s basically all I will have next month and when a month goes by he keep texting me harassing me non stop and when I finally paid the $300 he said ok you need to go buy 3 Amazon or eBay gift cards I’m like for what? He said for your clearance fee. I’m like wth? So I did that then he said ok now you need to pay an additional 200$ I’m like $200 more you said we agreed on $300 because I don’t have income and weeks went by and he kept saying you must try all means to go to the store and get the money and buy 2 gift cards and send it to me with the receipt and kept saying maam where are you? Like it’s non of your damn business where I am. So now that the $500 is paid, he comes up with another bs excuse saying the directors need the winners to pay an additional $1000 for the winning certificate just to get their grant he just keeps lying to me. He won’t give me my money and I feel I’m never going to see it and I just got taken advantage of. I NEED HELP!!! I have all the messages.

Got an instant message supposedly from a friend about a government grant program. It is about the New federal government AMERICAN HOPE RESOURCES program ( IDA) 2021 Commission. Scammer pretended to be a friend and sentmeto the above phone number for info. I was asked to fill out a form and then was told I was accepted but had to pay for delivery of grant money. I asked them a question the realfriend would know and they couldn't answer so I know it was a scam.

Whereas to me this is clearly a scam, both due to the content as well as the awkward phrasing, I worry that someone who has only recently become a citizen and whose mother language is not English, would be badly frightened by this. Here is what the voicemail said: “ in order to connect the federal agent, press one and you’ll be connected to the concern department. If we don’t hear from you, your social will be blocked permanently. Press one and you will be connected to the concern department ....”. I hope so much that providing this phone number will allow you to track down and somehow stop this frightening scam.

Left the following voicemail on my cell phone:

"Lawsuit against you and arrest warrant has been released on your name due to legal enforcement action filed on your Social Security number for fraudulent activities to get more information about thiscase file from federal database press one and speak to our agent now..."
