Global Retreats Reports & Reviews (2)

I wasn't contacted by this establishment and scammed by them, I was actually hired by them through a temp agency called Taber Staffing. I replied to an ad on craigslist for phone center representatives and was hired right away after a short interview and no background check.

The job is setting appointments over the phone for locally hosted dinners. You're calling individuals with time shares and telling them there have been updates and changes to their time share and a complimentary dinner is being hosted to go over those changes and updates. I have no idea what actually happens at the dinner, and they were careful when training us to tell us that we are NOT RCI or II, and we are NOT the home resort. Yet we are pressured to make it seem like we are without explicitly saying so. We are supposed to make the individual feel like this is an important meeting in which updates specific to their home resort will be covered to save them on missing weeks/points and higher maintenance fees. A lot of numbers we called were not actual time share owners. The job was a choice of either an hourly wage and commission after a certain number of reservations, or strictly commission for each reservation you made (though they had to show up to the dinner in order for you to earn the commission). The sketchy part was the individual only qualified for the dinner if they were the sole owner of the deed, or if all principal owners of the deed were able to attend, and their maintenance fees were up to date.

I had a really bad feeling about the job, how aggressively the best call reps were speaking to individuals over the phone, and how sneaky their tactics were. The goal was to make people on the phone afraid that if they missed this dinner, they would miss important updates and changes to their home resort. Only if someone asked who I specifically was, could I reveal that I was a 3rd party reservations company making reservations for the dinner for "affiliates of RCI and II."

I understand what is happening is likely legal, especially since we are not allowed to lie and say we are explicitly RCI and II or the home resort, but it makes my stomach sink wondering what actually happens at these dinners. Well meaning people with time shares are going to these dinners and likely getting pressured into some sort of scam that costs them thousands of dollars! When I was hired, the company was growing and moving into a bigger office and already had two locations. But what is happening at the dinners? And why are so many employees being paid commission to get individuals to the dinners? It deeply concerns me. I quit after 3 days because it smelled like a scam and I wanted no part in it. When I explained my reason for leaving, I was told that "most of the time we are actually getting people out of bad situations that they got themselves in with resorts." Whatever that means.

I'm filing this because I feel like it deserves the time and attention of the BBB. There is something fishy going on, there is obviously LOTS of money in it or they wouldn't be growing, and the aggressive tactics used to get well meaning folks to the dinners is immoral. I wasn't personally scammed, but I was hired to pressure people into going to the dinners. I don't know what happens after that, but I think it's important that it's investigated.

Caller-- hello is this Mrs. X; response was Yes; silence. I asked what are you calling about? Caller response: meeting concerning your Timeshare. I asked what meeting? Silence; I then asked what time share? Silence again. I hung up.

Once I identified the number I called back. (904) 406-1036. I was then told I was now being answered by a 800 # in a call center, setting up meetings in Jacksonville FL. This person insisted they were not the person who called me. They weRe Global Retreats -- a third party company for --RCI and II(interval International) both timeshare exchange companies -- setting meetings up for owners to discuss changes/updates in timeshare industry. This person tried to keep me in phone once I said I thought this was part of a call scam......
