On 12/15/18, I received an unsolicited text inquiring if I was interested in becoming a secret shopper with a link to an application, which I filled out. I received no response, but did receive an identical second text on 01/02/19. On 01/07/19, I received another text informing me that a check had been delivered by USPS and instructing me to "act accordingly." I did, in fact, receive a check for $2,000 referencing "Derrick Johnson" and a letter informing me of my "first assignment as a Survey Analyst/Store Evaluation," instructing me to deposit the check, notify GetPaid Shopper by email and await further instructions. The assignment would be to purchase a moneygram at Walmart and write a report, but "adequate information" would be provided to accomplish the task. I immediately became suspicious and began researching possible secret shopper scams. I will not be depositing the check.
