Craigslist rental scam. Here is email:

Hi again,

As I was mentioning before, we will be LeaseOurHouse Solutions to complete the Rental Agreement. They will provide assistance showing the place and handling the payment. With this procedure you will be able to view my apartment without any obligations to rent it. I will pay all the transaction costs. To avoid any misunderstanding I will explain you step by step how the viewing procedure works:

1. You need to provide me with your information: full name & address (street, number, city and postal code) phone number, and a copy of your ID. After receiving your details, I will contact LeaseOurHouse to start the booking process.

2. LeaseOurHouse Service will send you the TRANSACTION DETAILS to inform you that they have the keys and the papers in their custody. According to Canadian real estate laws they will also provide for you all terms and conditions of their company, conditions that you can accept or NOT in order to move forward with the payment process.

3. You need to send the amount of 2700$ (for the 1st month rent from the rental contract + last month rent - this payment will be deducted in the last month from the rental contract) to the LeaseOurHouse payment representative sent to you in the Transaction Confirmation. The payment needs to be sent within 24 hours after you receive the transaction details or else they will be charging me an additional fee.

4. As soon as the payment is completed you need to send the payment confirmation to LeaseOurHouse & The designated agent will arrange the apartment visit.

5. You will meet the LeaseOurHouse agent and If you decide to keep the apartment you just need to sign the lease agreement and they will release the funds to me. If you don't want to rent the apartment you will receive a full payment refund including any payment fee paid for it. Please note that LeaseOurHouse can NOT release the funds to me without your approval. You have full payment control.

I want to inform you that we will use the LeaseOurHouse services just to transfer the keys and the rental contract to you. After that I will provide you my personal bank account and you will pay the rent month to month directly to me.

I'd say same as any other. Needed a new place that was affordable, even more so with Covid present. Our landlord was looking to sell off a lot of his properties. Hence why, figured we'd at least check out our options before it became official. Honestly even the place I've got now is a absolute gem, so I was willing to give chance to smaller personal renter. No other Rental property places were responding to our applications when we stumbled upon the ad. I knew going into it what to look out for. And that's just me. And human nature to believe we're worth some goodness now and again eh. Its disheartening that scammers take advantage of others hopes so greedily, and seem genuine about it.

The ad was for a 2bed 2 bath condo all inclusive. At a price that was within our range. They made it seem like it was their private property, fully paid off, everything covered down to maintenance fees, parking spots, laundry ex;washer/dryer. Which all checked out as legit for a Condo. There was questions they ignored which were pretty basic and when I tried to establish some talking points outside of the unit. To ya know, get a human response outside of a script, a well written script mind you. The grammar was good, proper paragraphs, seemed fine in the portion of talking about the property. They straight up mentioned using a third party to transfer funds that was similar to an 'escrow account' and how they 'couldn't be there' due to work outside of the country for at least 5yrs. Saying he used the 3rd party themselves to find a house where they are currently at. This one claimed to have just been here for some other people that didn't show to their agreed time for a viewing. Nothing came up when I tried to look up this guys name, the number of the unit in question was never given in addition.

Yeah, the deeper I researched, the more this crossed off 4 of 5 warnings, 7 of 10, and what not. DO not trust myidealhome-rentals / ./ com. That is the third party site 'guaranteed deposit' Which claims it will return free of charge on the same day, IF you do not like the property. AFTER you PAY to GO SEE they place. Yeah, odd, so much didn't add up.
