A business calling themselves Gem Network Survey spoofed a colleague's linkedIn account and sent me a message on LinkedIn. Unfortunately I fell for it initially so they have my contact info. They are claiming to be a secret shopper network and are sending me a check for $1850.00 that I'm supposed to deposit, and use $1500.00 to purchase 3 credit card merchant gift cards, and $350.00 of which will be mine to keep as a "commission". Inevitably the check will be fake, and if I were to deposit it, I'd be left holding the bag for the $1850.00. Pretty appalling practice.
