Shortly after purchasing a computer from Beat Buy I attempted to download Microsoft Office form Microsoft's Website by entering the code from the Microsoft Office Student and Home card that I purchased from Office Depot. After entering the code and pushing the download command a webpage came up saying that occasionally that they are unable to download to a computer and to contact a local Microsoft office in my area or to call the number on the screen. I called the number on the screen and was told that the problem was not with Microsoft and that they needed to gain access to my computer to identify the problem. They told me then that they were consultants hired by Microsoft to help out when the purchased programs did not down load. As I felt comfortable feeling that I was getting these instructions from a message that I thought that I had received from Microsoft. They showed me several Microsoft files that had been turned off and claimed that I had an active malicious software on my computer and that eventually I would not be able to do anything. I purchased a three year package for $399 to protect my computer for three years. For the next two hours I gave them access to all three of my computers while I watched them scan all the files and run various malware programs like Malwarebytes and downloaded Microsoft office to my computer. All the time talking to a person with an Indian accent. I became suspicious and tried to contact the company through their website (not the phone numbers or email accounts that they had supplied me with) but did not get a response which I attributed to the fact that it was the weekend. It took me several more days after reporting the possible hack to Microsoft and getting no response to finally getting a Microsoft agent who informed me that they do not employ consultants and that they could for a fee do what the hackers had told me they did. I have changed several passwords and am anxiously watching my financial information.
