Type of a scam Tech Support
I received a call on my cell phone on Sunday evening February 7th from (860)540-6999. The male voice with mid-eastern accent stated that he was from Windows Live Tech Support from the Geek Support Line. He stated it was urgent that I go to my computer now and boot up to follow the steps as he guides me through because they had received notification that my computer was getting error messages. It was very important that I do this right now and quickly to prevent a virus from effecting my computer. I told him I would not do this, but asked him to give me a phone number to call him back the call back number was (888)214-5887. This is the second time I have gotten such a call, the first was a few weeks ago and it was a lady with mid-eastern accent. He tried to assure me it was a legit call and told me to get to my computer as soon as possible and he could help me with the error messages. I did not get on my computer or follow his instructions, and I did not call him back. First off, I do not have internet access at home so it would only be by some magical mystery how he could tell what my computer was doing. I think next time I'll keep him on the phone and pretend I am connecting to the internet and pretend I am making the keystrokes he tells me just to give him a whole bunch of false information, it may not do any good, but it will waste some of his precious time like they are doing to so many innocent people trying to enjoy a peaceful Sunday evening at home.
