He used the name Gary Wang at Match.com, an architect. I made an online search and found the website garicarchitects.com and he even had a linked in account and Facebook account bearing his picture. I am quite informed about scammers but was convinced because he was really good, he did not have the usual characteristics of scammers (poor grammar, inconsistent stories, etc); he was quite good in conversation and was convincing as an architect. Even his reference to time where he was supposed to be, was flawless. However, he did have some red flags, like he did not agree to a video call (excuse was he was using a blackberry which did not support video messaging), he diverted me away from the website of Match, he was granted a project in Bulgaria (so he went overseas) and finally, got into trouble when he was about to leave due to non-payment of taxes. Before the tax problem, he tried ti gain my trust by asking me to help him with his online banking, because he claimed he did not have a secure connection where he was staying so he could not open his bank account. He asked me to log on his account and transfer some money to a certain company that leased levelling machines. After that he asked me to log in again to check if the transfer went through. Later on he asked me again to log in to check if a payment to him was reflected. At that point I became uncomfortable, so I resolved not to agree to do his banking again. When he was about to leave (to supposedly visit me in my country), he was supposedly arrested at the airport for non-payment of tax. After not communicating for one day, he called me using a Bulgarian number and said he will call again to ask me to transfer money to pay the tax so he could be released. But when he called again, I told him I do not want to help him transfer anymore. He tried to convince me, became upset, then calmed down, saying he will solve it himself. After a couple of days he asked if I could call his friend in the US and ask the friend to call him. When I called the US number, his "friend" sounded like him. Anyway, the friend supposedly sent him some money, but was short of some $30K. He then asked me if I could help him cover for it by sending him the money. I told him I couldn't do that. As I expected, he never called again after that. My reason for reporting this was the scammers are getting more organized, they seem to be creating personality profiles with believable, very smooth and well-made stories. I thought I know how to tell scammers apart, but I was still convinced. It is good that my judgement was still not clouded and I refused to send any money. I did waste a lot of time and effort, and I felt really bad.

I am from the Philippines, but the place I provided below is Richmond in Oregon, because I was visiting her when I was communicating with the scammer.
