I applied to a job on Indeed called "Remote Content Editor." I was contacted about the position, I interviewed, and the next day, I was offered the job. The papers that they had me sign seemed legitimate. Among those papers, they wanted me to fill out a direct deposit form (nothing out of the ordinary from other online jobs that I've worked,) so I included my banking information. I sent all that back over email, and they requested that I chat with the hiring manager/HR for onboarding on Skype. They told me that they were having trouble with direct deposit, so they had a check for me to print and that I should use my mobile app to deposit the check. After that, he would help me select the equipment (computer, mobile phone, and headset) that I needed for the job. When he sent the check, it was obviously fake. The company names didn't match. My information was printed clearly on the check, and the rest of the check was very fuzzy. That's when I stopped communicating with them. I believe that they called me a few times, and they asked on Skype if I had deposited yet -- I was supposed to send a screenshot of the deposit to the hiring manager for my file.
