I applied for a job as a data entry clerk. I was told the interview would be in a google hangout because it was a remote position. During the interview, I was told there would be a background check, although I did not give my social security number or any personal information. The next day I was offered a position and they were going to send me a check so that I could purchase my supplies. The first check they sent was for my computer I would need and the second was for the health insurance package. They told me that all of this had to go through a third party. So I was to deposit the checks and then wire transfer to the vendor. I did both these things and then my bank called to inform me the checks were counterfeit and the wire transfers would hopefully both be rejected. If not, I am responsible. I have filed a police report and contacted the cyber crimes division at the FBI.
