Received a letter stating out of court settlement for past due payday loan. Attempt to settle for EZMoney for $395.00. Threatening legal action if not paid.

Several hundred people have received the same debt collection letter under different "legal" group names like Progressive or Frontier from OK to FL. It seems they pull your personal info from somewhere and put the info in a collection letter and say you owe a debt i.e. $1439.42 but can pay them $395.00 for a payday loan you defaulted on 20 years ago, including saying you never paid it and closed your checking account...the company you owe supposedly is called EZMONEY or EZCORP. If you call the number listed you get no answer or a voicemail. Some people have fallen for this scam panicking when they list loved ones names as witnesses to be summoned to court.

Sent a letter stating I owed for a payday loan through a company called WZCorp/EZMoney taken out 10 years ago from an address that I haven’t lived at for 12 years. The sent a letter stating that I’ve been taken to court and offered an out of court settlement for $395. They have my name, current address, and last 4 of my ssn.

Sent me a letter "notification of lawsuit & civil complaint"

telling me about some payday loan I defaulted on years ago (which I haven't even heard of the place) Advance America

referencing an old work place from years ago

referencing two contact names

Cc: U.S. District Court and Transunion credit bureau

and saying my credit score

has a detachable receipt to send them a payment to the address listed
