I am a case manager at the AAU. A couple of my clients have been approached by this person named Jesse, phone number 801-608-9374. He stops them on the street and asks them if they received public assistance like Food Stamps or Medicaid. They said yes so he said if they are eligible they could receive a free phone or free tablet. He puts their information, name, DOB, SSN, etc. into his tablet to see if they qualify. Most do not qualify at first, so he says he will get back to them after the system processes their information. I have had one client who did receive the free tablet. The others never heard back from him. I called him once to ask what this is about. He said he works for some company that contracts with the federal government ACP (Affordable Connectivity Program). I recently had another client tell me about him. She was very concerned that he is going to steal her identity. She said he doesn't wear a uniform, explain who he works for, or anything. He has the tablet with him in his van. I wanted to report this because even though he is contracted with this government program, it still seems sketchy and not professional.
