We were visiting the area and needed a tow out of our driveway due to icy/snowy conditions. We found Phillip’s when we googled tow truck companies in Fairplay. We spoke on the the phone with two different representatives. They seemed legit. She said a tow would be dispatched within the hour. It ended up taking 5 hours for the trick to come. We later learn that the truck company had not even been contacted until 15 minutes before they arrived. Phillip’s told us that due to the icy/snowy conditions and the expedited request, it would cost 914.25. We later learned from the actual tow truck company that we should have only been charged $300 and that Phillip’s was a fake company that intercepted our call and acted as a third party broker for the tow request. After some research, we learned the following. Phillips towing does not actually exist. They created a Google account and used a local business front that is not theirs in order to create that Google account. They are not a motor club or roadside service in any way. They are a fraudulent company that created a fake front only on Google in order to send people their way and then reach out to actual towing companies to do the work for them piggybacking off both the towing company and fraudulently charging customers that they are not actually providing service for. It's my understanding that this was happening down in Denver and the people got away with it for quite some time period being up here in a small mountain community when something like this happens it's found out rather quickly. They only created the Google account three weeks ago and were able to get two toes through us including yours yours being the whistleblower per se for them. I'm reaching out to the other person we helped to let them know that they should dispute this with their credit cards as this person did not provide the service for them but used a fake Google account to have someone else do service.
