Focus South Reports & Reviews (2)

Thank you for your review. At Focus Marketing Events, we are always grateful for reviews, whether good or bad, so as to improve our process as a business. And I hope to bring some clarity to the interview process with Focus South. You stated "the only information on the internet is their various URGENT entry-level job board postings. Their website is not accompanied by any addresses, despite their claim of having 5 offices." Listed in ALL of our job boards is our location, which Marietta GA. That's to ensure all our applicants are located in Georgia. Our jobs are labeled "URGENT entry-level job openings" because we're looking to expand with the next 6-8 weeks.
"I found what I thought was applying for a nonprofit account manager position within a marketing agency, as the job listing was shown to me because of my interest in the nonprofit sector. This job listing was accompanied by six other listings (different positions), all posted within the same day" We’re a marketing firm! We work with brand management and events for charities and nonprofits! At Focus South, our mission is to align ourselves with organizations that strive to better the communities around us, such as various nonprofits and charities like the United Breast Cancer Foundation and The Nature Conservancy. We host community drives and events to bring brand awareness and fundraise for the charities in ways mass marketing campaigns can’t handle. "I applied late at night and was promptly notified the following morning via email that I was wanted for an interview as soon as possible." Since our job boards are listed as URGENT we contact viable candidates in a timely manner.

"After showing up, myself and another job seeker were taken to an off-site coffee shop by a 'leading account manager' to have the interview. We spent the next 30 minutes learning a very basic lesson on marketing and it felt like training rather than an interview. The following 30 minutes, the account manager had us draw a 4 tiered diagram detailing the progression through their 4 positions in the business. He made sure that we copied exactly what he had drawn. The levels progress from a basic sales, self-management, customer service position of the 'Account Executive' all the way up to the 'Project Director' who may choose their city, clientele, hours and pay."
We take our applicants to an off-site location to give a personal touch to the interview. We provide a breakdown of how our marketing and other types of marketing structure to provide clarity and insure understanding of the level of progression.

"This was also the point that we were notified that the pay was 100% commission and bonus based, even though we were told pay amounts for each of the four levels."
We offer a salary and pay-out bonuses and commissions on top! The starting salary is negotiable based on your prior experience and what you're bringing to the table. The entry-level starting wage is about $25K annually before any type of bonus pay. On average, our employees in their first year will bring home between $45-65K.

We apologize for the negative experience for this employee. With that said, we pride ourselves on providing a great opportunity in terms of both growth and pay. Unfortunately, this was not the case with this particular individual, but we wish this person all the best in their career search.

Focus Marketing Events is a direct marketing firm. We partner with many Fortune 500 clients and work on bridging the gap between consumers and clients by marketing their products with our customized campaigns. We do not require ANY of our associates to purchase and resell products- that is the definition of a pyramid scheme. The career path available through our company is developed through a training program that is extensive and takes a lot of time and hard work. Within a year you can complete this program and be in a great position of your own. We apologize that our career path did not align with your professional goals.

Other than Focus South's own website, the only information on the internet is their various URGENT entry level job board postings. Their website is not accompanied by any addresses, despite their claim of having 5 offices. I found what I thought was applying for a nonprofit account manager position within a marketing agency, as the job listing was shown to me because of my interest in the nonprofit sector. This job listing was accompanied by six other listings (different positions), all posted within the same day. I applied late at night and was promptly notified the following morning via email that I was wanted for an interview as soon as possible. I went into the first interview in a shared office space and was asked basic interview questions and if I would be able to have a second interview the next morning if selected. 2 hours after leaving I was notified that I had made the second round and I was to show up the next day. After showing up, myself and another job seeker were taken to an off-site coffee shop by a 'leading account manager' to have the interview. The levels progress from a basic sales, self-management, customer service position of the 'Account Executive' all the way up to the 'Project Director' who may choose their city, clientele, hours and pay. The projected time to navigate through all the levels to the top was said to be between 5 (very least) and 13 (at most) months. We were then notified that there is 100% promotion within the company and told that even if Apple CEO Tim Cook quit his job to apply to Focus South, he would have to start at the bottom just like us. This was also the point that we were notified that the pay was 100% commission and bonus based, even though we were told pay amounts for each of the four levels. We were then driven back to the office space and directed to fill out a survey rating the interviewer's abilities and character and why they should hire us. This is the point in time that I turned in my incomplete survey and left.
