A message popped up on my daughters Apple computer while on the search engine Safari-the message caused the screen to freeze and she could not exit out of it-even after closing her computer and opening Safari again, the message stayed on the screen-she was unable to use it at all!! The message told her to call 1-866-288-5593 to have her firewall repaired and updated. She called and the tech support team was able to log in to her computer and "fix" the problem but the cost was 199.99 (repair, diagnosis, and support). She called us to tell us what was happening and I called the number above to ask questions as it all seemed fraudulent. The man I spoke with assured me that they were tech support contracted by apple to help with technical problems-they kept saying "do not worry" which concerned me more. I asked him where they were located and he said Tennessee, but could not give me a city. After 30 minutes of trying to convince me of the validity of the business, he finally transferred me to his "finance dept" and I spoke with a Mike Anderson who told me that he would do a partial refund of $99.00 and it should take a day to process but that he would call me to confirm the next day. While I was on the phone with them I looked up the business website, which is very vague. It does offer package pricing so I questioned the service and price that my daughter was charged-it offers very little information on the service provided, does not give any contact address information either. I got an address from the first person I talked to and looked it up today-it looks to be in a residential area of Glendale AZ-also tried to do reverse phone look up on the numbers provided and all said they were private numbers. The contact email address i was given and tried to use was returned as undeliverable-host or domain name not found ([email protected]). While the technician was still working in my daughters system he sent her a chat message that told her that "her mother was on the phone and was wanting a refund and that he was going to remove everything"-she told him no and then disconnected and shut off her system. I called again today to find out where the refund is and was told they needed additional time. I let them know that none of the phone numbers were verifiable, the address was a residential one, the charge would be disputed, and that i was reporting them to the ScamPulse.com and Apple.
