I was approached about an internship offer which seemed very real from the website and everything. They asked to download wire messenger and interview. After a day of interview, I was told that I am hired and I was given forms to fill out my direct deposit information and provide license copy for ID. Then I was connected with onboarding manager who said they will send me a check to buy iMac for remote job and office set up. They sent a digital check and I deposited as instructed. After asking for his linkedin and seeing the profile very empty, I got suspicious and after research I found out that I have been a part of a scam. I called my bank and told them to put a hold on my account and stop the check from processing as it is fraud. They advised that after few days of investigation if the check is fraud the funds should be canceled by itself. It is a very evil way of scamming that tricks students who are looking for jobs into falling for it even if they are well educated.
