Jerry - AKA Jeremiah Orman - was very quick to respond to us and our questions. He came to the house, offered us an excellent quote, stated he had just moved to the area and was restarting his business. He wanted to take pictures of the house upon completion to "help build his portfolio". He was very well spoken, polite, and knowledgable. We had concerns about him not being insured/bonded but he agreed to get that taken care of and provide us with proof. He asked if we were going to get the paint or if he should get it. He started up an account with Sherwin Williams as a contractor, was able to get a discount, and we settled on him getting the paint at cost. We gave him a check to pay for the paint. He cashed the check the same day, went and bought the paint (we verified amount and colors with Sherwin Williams), and then called the night before he was to start to say he needed another day to finish another job and would start on Tuesday. The next day, I received a text from someone claiming to be his wife (girlfriend, fiance - he referred to her in all of these ways during our previous conversations) to say he was in ICU after an accident in Indianapolis. Long story short, the paint was "in the truck" he was driving. We were very compassionate, patient, and wanted her to just take care of things for herself and Jerry. We offered to pick up our paint multiple times, she claimed she would deliver it to us and even offered up a friend/colleague to honor the quote and do the job (who, by the way, said he would do it and then never showed up.) Finally, Jerry was "released from the hospital" and texted, but said he couldn't deliver the paint because he "had to put brakes on the truck". He would deliver it "tomorrow but it will be very late at night" and would leave it on our driveway and mail us the balance of the amount we had given him for paint. SEVERAL weeks later, we still have no paint, and this person who prided himself on "communication and honesty" has not been heard from and can't be found. Sadly, we had our reservations about hiring him from the get go. But we wanted to give him a chance. I guess we should have listened to our gut. We are now about 5 weeks into this ordeal and out $800. We attempted to track him down at the address he gave us, only to find out that an elderly lady lives there alone and that her husband recently passed away (and had a name that rhymes with Jerry). We reached out to Thumbtack, which is where we first came in contact with Jerry. They don't offer much hope, but are claiming to attempt to help us resolve the issue.
