Federal Bureau of Investigation Spoof Reports & Reviews (1)

- Gurnee, IL, USA

A gentlemen named Kevin Morgan claimed to be an FBI investigator working on my case and calling from 312/421-6700; this man stated that the University I am attending filed charges against me and that I was going to be arrested. He knew my personal information as well as my student account information. This alarmed me and after asking a few questions, he instructed me to stop what I was doing and get a money order to pay some fees I owed the IRS and have my charges removed. I continued to not understand why would the institution do this to me and every attempt I made to hang up on him so that I could call the school and the IRS, he would tell me we couldn’t hang up because I would get arrested. This scared me and I immediately told my supervisor I had to leave work and go the nearest IRS office to sort this matter, while the “FBI investigator” was on hold. To make long story short, this man then change from wanting a money order to wanting a transfer wired to two different Attorneys from the IRS. He asked for a large sum of money and I when I refused, he began to threaten me. This is when I realized it was a scam. After telling me that I wasted his time, he started contradicting himself, he said my SSN and driver’s license were no longer valid, my current studies were going to be revoked/will no longer earn my degree, all bank accounts were going to be frozen, and my credit was now ruined. He continued to tell me he was no longer going to help me and was going to hang up, but wouldn’t. I told him that he was scaring me and that I was going to get a lawyer for this, and he would repeatedly tell me it was too late and that I had a warrant for my arrest. He eventually hung up when he realized I was not going to comply with the money transfer. I don’t know how this man got my personal/student information, but I am now worried that I’ve been compromised. He knew too much about about my student account.
