I decided to order cigarettes online, which I had done years ago with no problems. There was only one site with the brand I wanted; fastcigarettes.com. The site looked and worked like a legitimate website. I didn't realize until the checkout screen that they only took electronic payments. So, one of the options was CashApp, which I signed up for. Since I'm not that tech savvy, for the first time I used their chat form to get help getting CashApp and paying them through it. The person (Wendy Levine) worked with me in real time for 3 hours over 2 days. And what a nice online persona she had! After paying I didn't hear anything back for a week. I tried the chat option again and got no answer. So, I emailed them ([email protected]) and "Wendy" actually emailed me back stating that payment was received and I would get an email the next day saying when they would be mailed. That was the last I heard from them despite trying the chat option and more emails. Now for the hard part. A scammer is a scammer and a criminal, so the real responsibility lies with them. However, had I done what I usually do with any site I go on this would not have happened. I only go on well known sites to order things (Amazon, Target, eBay, Etsy, QVC and HSN. And even though they're well known, I always scrolled down to the bottom of their pages when I first went on them to make sure they have a contact phone number and address. I still prefer speaking on the phone to a customer service rep if there's a problem or question to FAQs and chat formats. For some reason, when I went on this site I scrolled through the page but didn't check the phone number and address. I only went back to look for the phone number after I hadn't heard from them after a few days after payment. The phone number was listed as 1 (987) 654-3210 and the zip code for San Francisco was 12345. Obviously I would have realized that the site was fake. ALWAYS CHECK OUT ENTIRE SITE AND MAKE SURE THERE IS A LEGITIMATE PHONE NUMBER AT LEAST. Call it first even if it looks real to make sure. Also, a great idea is to look up the name of the website and look for reviews of it. I later found a review of the site and that the parent company claims to sell almost everything! And of course sends nothing. I may not be that tech savvy, but that's what usually makes me so careful. This is the first time I've been scammed and now I keep getting small increments taken out of my bank account under the name Aspirations P2P several times a month. Didn't know what that was so I kept having my bank dispute the charges. Kept getting my money back, but every time I dispute them the bank has to issue me a new card, which takes over a week to get here. I'm on my fourth card this year. So, again, check for phone number, address and reviews.
