What appears to be an old good friend of mine had messaged me through Facebook’s Messenger, regarding a government grant she had received. She sent me images of her “check” which was issued by Chase Bank. It seemed legit. I told her sure I will give it a try if it’s real. I “applied”. Since no money was being asked for, I sent my personal information. Including (regrettably) a photo of my drivers license. Once completion, I was informed that the check would be mailed by 3pm. That’s when I caught on, and realized I fell for a scam, and will be experiencing Identity Fraud in the nearby future. After the message notifying me of the 3pm delivery, they suggested I go to a Bitcoin ATM to deposit $200 for the delivery fees. I did not continue, and stopped engaging with such scammers. I may have not lost any money, but I did loose my person information. We are in hard times, due to covid, and the idea of getting a “grant” sounds way too good, that I cannot believe I fell for this.
