During my online browsing, I stumbled upon a website promoting Maine C o o n kittens. The individuals behind the website were using the aliases Sean and Annabelle. Initially, we communicated primarily through emails and later transitioned to text messages. It was intriguing to discover that I was interacting with both Annabelle and Sean, each using a different phone number. Among the charming kittens available, my attention was captivated by a delightful one named Rapunzel. They provided me with a quote of $750 for the kitten, and an estimated transportation cost of $190. Thus, the total amount required for the kitten would be $940, which I considered an exceptional deal. Once I received the necessary information, I promptly made the payment via Zelle. They also requested that I answer specific questions, to which I readily complied. In one of our email exchanges, I even inquired about the presence of any hidden fees that I should be aware of.
Following the successful payment of $940, they assured me that they would furnish additional details regarding the transportation process. Subsequently, I was informed that a separate vendor would handle the transportation of the kitten. Consequently, arrangements were made for the cat to be delivered the following day, and a comprehensive itinerary was sent to me.
However, to my astonishment, the very next day, I received an email from the transportation company responsible for the cat. The email confirmed that all the necessary paperwork was in order, but it also stipulated that the cat needed insurance. They requested an additional payment of $989 for the insurance, assuring me that a refund would be provided upon delivery. The timing of this email, coinciding with the day the kitten was scheduled to be flown out, greatly perturbed me. Fearing for the situation's integrity, I attempted to contact the owners through text messages and phone calls, but unfortunately, I received no response. In fact, one of the phone numbers I attempted to reach was out of service. Nevertheless, I did manage to engage in a conversation with the individual responsible for transporting the kitten, both over the phone and through text messages. I explained my inability to afford the supplementary $989 for transportation. In response, they conveyed that if no one came to pick up the kitten, it would be sent to a shelter. Troubled by the well-being of the kitten, I requested a picture to ensure its safety. Additionally, I informed the transportation company that I had family living nearby and suggested that my sister could come and pick up the cat. However, despite my efforts, I regrettably never received a picture. When I called back to inquire about the situation, the individual explained that the pictures were bouncing back to their phone.
