EXpress Tp Reports & Reviews (1)

- Clear Lake, MN, USA

I received a total of 4 letters in the mail (one a month) from a company called EXpress Toll who supports License Plate Tolls in Colorado. I threw them all away except for the 4th one since I was in Colorado in January of 2020. I opened the letter and it stated that if I didn't pay my overdue toll balance fee I would get a $20 Collections Charge. I did call the "business" yesterday and they had me go through the phone prompts, type in my Statement ID and then a minute or so later an Customer Service Rep answered. They re-confirmed some of my info that was listed on my letter. They seemed very legit. They stated that I owe the amount due to driving on a toll road in Colorado. I explained how I was not in Colorado on 01/05/20. They stated that they have the photo of my vehicle driving. They described the year, make and model of the vehicle that I owned during that time frame (I did sell this vehicle on 02/07). They also stated my vehicles MN license plate, which was also accurate. When I continued to explain that I was in Colorado the weekend after 01/05 but had a rental truck they said it didn't matter and they have photographic evidence that my vehicle/license plate was driving on a toll road that they are responsible for collecting the toll fees for. They asked if I wanted to see the photo and I said yes. Unfortunately I did give them my e-mail address and confirmed my home address that they already had on the letters they were sending me. They were rude towards the end since I was persistent that I had never drove my vehicle to Colorado. They told me I was responsible since it was clearly my license plate which is my responsibility and would have to fight the matter with my local DMV since clearly something is wrong. They reminded me that if I didn't pay the $20.30 I would have late fees added and they could turn me into a collections department. After the call I did receive an email with a photo of what appeared to be a 2011 Ford Edge with "my" MN license plate. However, the only thing you really can see is the plate which was even more of a red flag. After thinking it all through I know this has to be a scam. I was not in Colorado on 01/05, my vehicle has never left MN and I was celebrating my birthday on 01/05 with my family. Also, I recently moved... The address I lived at in January 2020 is the address still on my MN drivers license. I have only lived at my new address since April and the letters received are using my new address which the MN DMV would not have. I figured I would report to the ScamPulse.com and will also call CO DMV and reach out to the MN State Attorney for further awareness. This scam felt very very real and with the small amount they are trying to collect it crossed my mind (and I typically considered myself very aware and careful) to just pay the $20.30 since fighting it was not worth my time. I am happy I stopped myself, slowed down and didn't give any more of my personal info to them.
