I signed up for passport expedite services for my 5 year old. After several phone calls and an attempt to fill out their online paperwork I was advised to just put all zeros for a SSN for my son because I didn't know his and the passport office doesn't require it anyway. At the passport office they advised me that they can not process the passport request because a minor has to be present at office and the "sealed" government envelope they were advising me to get does not apply for minors. I called the national passport office to verify and they confirmed that the expedite service was not providing me accurate information and that I did not need to give them child SSN, and that they are not able to process a passport for a minor from an expedite service company even if a passport office (other than regional office) has reviews, stamped and verified information. Too many subduction and file custody issues that to expedite a passport the only was for a minor is to bring him in with a parent into a regional office and that the Expresspassport.com company has given me inaccurate information and wrongfully charged me $179 for their service which they can not provide.
