On 1/31, I called 800-880-8132 after it came up in a google search as the customer service number for Expedia. I was calling to use my $1,435.98 in trip credits from a previously canceled trip with Expedia. The man who answered going by the name Ben said he could help me. He asked for my itinerary number and he seemed to know the details of the canceled trip, including dates, departure and arrival cities. He told me available the amount of the credit and their experiation and asked dates and departure and destination of my new booking. After telling him, I was placed on hold and when he returned he said it would cost about $900 on top of the credit to travel on the original airline, British Airways, which included a difference in fare and change fee. Alternatively, I could be booked on Air France for just $154 more. He offered to refund the original ticket to my credit card ending in xxxx, and it would take 3-4 weeks to receive the refund. I would need to pay $$1,584.56 for the new booking on Air France. My husband paid with his Chase credit card and Ben asked for my email. I gave him an email address to which he said it didn’t match the Expedia account email and I gave it to him and he confirmed it. He said the itinerary would be sent within 48 hours but he would send an email right now with my booking and payment confirmation. I received the email and he asked me to push the confirm button which I did. He said to call him at the number under his name with any questions (844)763-0104.

I kept checking my email and there was no itinerary. On 2/3, I called Ben at the number under his name and a female with a thick Indian accent answered. I told her I was calling to check on my ticket and gave her the information. After placing me on extended holds several times to ‘check on it’ she returned to say she talked to ticketing and they couldn’t find the booking but maybe Ben hadn’t completed it yet and I should wait until he calls in about 4-5 days per notes he left in my booking. I asked to speak to Ben and she said he was at the hospital with a sick family member. At this point my husband intervened and asked if she was with Expedia. The email that was sent to me had an Expedia logo and came from [email protected] with the subject Expedia Cancel Rebook Authorization. After dodging and repeatedly being asked if she was with Expedia she finally said she wasn’t with Expedia but a consolidator that worked with airlines. We told her they were scammers and hang up. She called back and said the fact she called back proved they were not scammers and said someone would call back in the next day with the ticket. After hanging up with her, we called Chase and were able to get charges reversed. We chatted with Expedia through my Expedia account who confirmed I still had my flight credits available and gave me the number to call when I was ready to use them. As of this writing, we have not heard from or received an email from the scammers.
