I looked on line for assistance with my epison printer XP630, purchased in sept 2016. I called the number listed on the website. The man had a very heavy Asian accent, he said his name was Steve Scott..sounded generic, fake. He wanted access to get into my computer to help fix the problem, he looked at my IP address and said the problem was that other people were using my IP address and there are many viruses. I have Webroot protection thru Best Buy. He said that didn't matter. Then he wanted to know how many devices I have that run off my internet, I said 5. On a note pad, he typed his name, and 3 different costs for the repair of the viruses (note, no mention of fixing my printer) The quotes were $149.99 for one year, $199.99 for 2 years, and $399.99 for a life time. I told him I didn't have the money for the $149.99 program. He said he was checking with his supervisor, but I believe he just set the phone down, I was not put on hold. He came back in less than a minute and said he could do a one time repair for $99.99. I said I will have to think about and call back. I then called Best Buy, they said that was a scam..and a good thing I did not give any credit info. Best Buy said, he would of put in a passcode that would pop up before I could even log into my computer, and that Steve Scott would have full access to my computer, and to get the passcode to sign in, it could of cost me as much as $600. Best Buy has my computer now to clean it out and delete his info to compromise my computer. So be aware when looking for service with any Wi-Fi device. I paid for a 2 year insurance plan with my computer with Best Buy..that so far has been the best investment. Also, once my computer is clear, Geek Squad will help me with my wireless printer from home. Please be careful!!! These websites look legit. and it was the first website I came across!
