Scammer cold called me, first thing he said was, "we're not selling anything here," and, "we're with energy upgrade California and we're not contractors which is good." Then he told me there was a program offering money for home upgrades and went right in to asking if I was still a homeowner. Before offering this stranger any information, I asked what the website was, and said I was at work and asked him to give me their contact info so I could call him at my leisure. He then was ready to end the call, said they have to call me I cannot call them. Then I did online research and found out this program ended in 2021, and the website offers no actual information or contact information. I also learned that in order to have used that program, you HAD TO go through a contractor. Online consumer feedback also concludes this is scammer activity. Do not give cold-callers your information, a real program like this would require people to proactively seek to apply, they'd never call strangers and just ask them to join a program.

Cold calls asking to come to my home and evaluate it to qualify for a program. They specifically stated that they are NOT contractors using the angle that this is a good thing. So I researched the company they say they're calling from which has no contact information and no specific information on what they do just gives general energy efficiency advice same that any electric company gives. I also found out that this program ended in 2021 AND in order to use the program it would have to be

I'm not positive it's a scam, but like the other poster said, they have no contact information on their website, which is fishy.

The caller had a heavy accent, and insisted that we qualified for CA energy upgrade programs, such as subsidies for building an ADU. I told them that we don't qualify for that (I had already looked into it and we exceed the maximum household income amount to qualify), and they went on to tell me that even though we didn't qualify they could get us to qualify if someone could just come to our house and have a meeting with us.

At that point I said no thanks and hung up.

I get 5-10 calls per week from an organization claiming to be "Energy Upgrade CA". They know my phone and my home address. Their website (www.energyupgradeca.org) looks good, but has no contact information. The only contact info listed is a dead link to "California Public Utilities Commission". I'm sure they're a scam because every time I try to get more information about them they hang up the phone. All the operators don't speak English as a first language. They dial in on an array of legitimate looking numbers, circumventing my spam-calling filter on my phone.
