I received a letter saying that I have to pay $298 to the Employment Compliance Assistance and failure to comply with 2021 labor law requirements may lead to government fines and audits.

I received an official looking envelope with an enclosed letter and return envelope indicating I owed a $298 "processing fee", citing that "The State of California and the Federal government require all California employers to post a number of required notice. . .Failure to comply with California Labor Law Posting regulations can result in fines. . . .. " The sender offers to provide posters and "Failure to comply with posting regulations can lead to fines up to $17,000."

On the back side of the letter is a nearly invisible tome of Questions and Answers and Policies, Terms and Service Agreement. I waded through the fine print to find that this was actually "a research and publishing company."

Googling the company validated that this was a scam, but I could see it would be very easy to perceive this as a letter from a government agency and that one was required to send in $298 to comply with labor laws.

Received invoice in the amount of $298.00, with my LLC as billed party. Invoice states that fee covers CA/Federal employment compliance posters (which are free) and 2-year automatic update notification service. Top of invoice in bold letters reads ""NOITICE, Failure to comply with 2020 labor law requirements may lead to government fines and/or audits." The invoice is made to look like an official state/federal agency, "Employment Compliance Assistance, Compliance Department."
