Employment - Basking Biosciences Impostor Reports & Reviews (1)

- Montgomery Village, MD, USA • Jan 16, 2024

I was initially contacted on January 8th 2024 by the scammer offering me a a job interview with Basking Biosciences for a remote data entry position. They claimed they received my resume from LinkedIn and I was already looking for work so I agreed to it. On January 9th I did the interview via google form sent to me through a chat platform called Ring Central. After completing the interview and asking some of my own questions, I was merely told that I will receive an update about my status the following day. On January 10th, I received an email from the scammer saying I have an offer for the job and that I will need to sign a pdf of the job acceptance letter and email them my name, address, zip code and phone number. I was also tasked with writing a 200 word essay answering a question about a job experience. Upon completing those tasks, I was promised an additional $100 in my “startup check” for me to get equipment for a home office: a laptop, printer, lamination machine, and headphones. On January 11th, I receive an email from the scammer with a pdf of the check, and was instructed to print it out and use my banks mobile deposit feature to deposit the $4,319 check into my account. I completed the transaction and was told to send a screenshot confirming the transaction was made. I blocked out my personal information and sent the screenshot. The next morning on January 12th, I wake up around 8:15-8:30am to an email from the scammer asking me to confirm the money is available for use in my account. I confirm yes, and was then instructed to withdraw $4,200 from the bank and use the cash to buy 4 money orders, each with $1000, from two different post offices. I have difficulty traveling, and the scammer gets really pushy about me completing the transaction and notifying them the entire time. I get the money orders, and was told to go to a ups store to ship the money orders, customer receipts and receipts from each post office to :

I had to use the UPS Next Day Air Early AM delivery method, the scheduled pickup for January 13th at 9:00am. I did so, and had to send pictures of the receipt with the tracking number to confirm it was done. I was told I would receive updates about my equipment from the scammer the next day, only to learn the whole thing was a scam on January 13th. On the 13th I told my bank about the fraud, to which I was told that the money from the check was available for me to use because I had been with the bank for so long, but the check wasn’t truly cleared. Because of that, I am responsible for paying back the $4200 I withdrew on the 12th. I filed a police report about the fraud as well.
