I was job hunting on Indeed and LinkedIn. I submitted my resume to several jobs, ElevenTrust Real Estate Services being one of them. Someone named Glenn Smith an Office Manager with ElevenTrust reached out to me via email and told me my resume matched their qualification requirements and they'd love to set up an interview. The position was for a remote Customer Service Position. The first red flag was when they said it would be a text interview. It was to be Saturday, August 6th at 10AM EST, which would mean 7AM PST where I am located. I thought that sounded weird, however I did some research and discovered that text interviews are a modern way of interviewing, and according to an article on LinkedIn, businesses are hiring that way. ElevenTrust has a website, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram and while it is not super active, there are recent posts, so I felt a bit more comfortable proceeding. The day and time of the interview comes and then goes. At 7:15AM PST, I reached out to Glenn Smith letting him know that no one messaged me but I would be available all day if they were still interested. Two hours later I receive a text from Glenn apologizing for the delay and asking if I am ready for the interview. I was given an interview code (R19A68) and he had me confirm my full name and present address. Then he proceeded with what I felt were normal, straight-to-the-point interview questions: If I'm employed already or not, will I be able to devote 40-45 hrs a week to this job, what do I feel is essential to making sure my current remote job is done efficiently, what my most recent boss would say about my ability to do my job, and how long I would expect to work for the company if hired. Then he went over what the pay structure would be, how often I'd get paid and how I'd get paid (check or direct deposit). Besides the text interview and him being late to the interview, it seemed normal. He then sent a link to fill out a background check verification form. When I clicked on it, it took me to a background check form on Jotform.com which asked for what I felt like was normal background check information. Name, address, email, phone number, my SSN, my citizen status, veteran status, and pictures of the front and back of my drivers license. I filled it out and submitted it. Glenn informed me that he was forwarding my answers to the hiring board to be considered and he would inform me of their decision by 5:30 pm EST. He was actually on time with getting back to me, I received another text at 2:30pm PST (which is 5:30pm EST) that said Congratulations, we would love to have you on our team and hope to see the best in you. Glenn goes over the pay again, it is a salary position with benefits, and what benefits the company offers (Health, Dental, Vision, PTO, 401k, ect.). He said I would receive my offer letter in my email and to keep a look out and sign it so I could begin training asap. He also said I'd receive a check payment the following week so I could use it for the purchase of the home office equipment required for the job and that a list would be sent. Upon receiving and signing the offer letter, I would begin training. I was so excited I did not ask good questions, but I began telling my coworkers about it and they said it seemed a little strange, especially since most companies that handle sensitive financial information will send the required equipment, not a check. I had not called the business yet, but now I'm suspicious. I called the number they texted from, it said it was disconnected. I figured perhaps he messaged me from a messaging software their company uses. I tried to call the phone number listed on their website; it did not work. I tried the number listed on their Facebook (which is a different number, same area code though), I did get someone (not Glenn) through that number. I simply inquired about the position, I didn't say who I was, and they said the position had been filled. I also googled their office location and they do have a physical address; their logo is even on the door. So these things were making me nervous as to if this is even real. One of my friends also mentioned that despite having a text interview, someone in charge should also be trying to talk to me on the phone. I didn't receive the offer letter until Monday, Glenn emailed it and then texted me shortly after offering a general polite greeting and asking how I am. I told him I was reviewing the offer letter but had a few questions that came up over the weekend then asked when I can expect to hear from him over the phone. He said I could ask him anything, and that he would call me after his meetings. I inquired about the check, whether it was just a paper check. He said it was. I then asked why the company doesn't send the required equipment instead of the check. He responded that it was so we had the freedom to buy the office supplies we are comfortable with (which is a typical scam reply to this question I discovered), but he then said they could send the supplies if it would make me more comfortable. I said yes please, I'd be more comfortable with that. He said he noted that and reminded me to get my offer letter signed. Like three hours later I tried called the numbers again and this time none of the numbers worked. I texted Glenn and told him I tried to be proactive with the phone call and tried the number on the website and the Facebook but none of them worked and he told me that I don't need to stress myself out. He would call me after his meetings. I didn't respond after that. He never called. I still tried to reach out to the numbers, they still don't work, but there were brand new posts on their social media a week ago.
