I recently have been looking online researching wholesale distributors in search of an opportunity to make some income as a reseller. The adage "If it's too good to be true, then it is" fits my experience with the Alibaba wholesale portal. I bought 6 Nintendo Switch consoles at $85 per unit, totally up to $510. When I inquired about shipping cost, it was explained to me that it was already included in the price. The day after I paid, I get a call from this wholesale distributor telling me that my shipment was "on hold" until import taxes/duties were paid in full. This is my first time buying from someone overseas, so I really took a leap of faith and paid the import duties of exactly $530. I still thought I was getting a good deal with 6 Nintendo Switch Consoles totaling up (including import taxes) at $835 when I would have sold each one between $300-$350 each. This occurred yesterday and today was the day they were to be delivered. Mind you, I've never dealt with buying anything wholesale ever so I'm going through the motions of doing what is asked to get my shipment. I messaged the distributor inquiring of a time window of when to expect my shipment and the moment when he gave me an answer was when "the bell rung" and just realized I've been duped for a grand. Suddenly, there were additional fees for "clearance" and "cab" fees. "Clearance fee?" like what I just paid yesterday for U.S Customs to release my shipment and a "cab fee" as in to pay for my shipment to be delivered to my house when on the very day I bought this shipment was explained that shipping was already covered in the initial $510 payment? I'm not getting any money back and I've come to terms with it having taken somewhat of a risk, but I did hold back from buying more until I knew how this first deal was going to work out. It could have been a lot worse and I just hope this scam doesn't get the best of anyone else who, in good faith, are trusting strangers in hopes of making additional income.
