This was a rather sophisticated employment scam strategy. I replied to a Creative Director Role at Edifecs on an Indeed job posting. After a series of interviews I was eventually “hired” and began an elaborate onboarding process that involved several well written, on trend, branded, multi-page, internal documents on Edifecs Letter Head. The hire team was for the most part well spoken and navigated nearly all of my suspicions with a graceful, sophisticated, and a cunningly heartfelt warmth and understanding. For 24 hours I legitimately believed that I had been hired and was preparing to move my life in that direction. However on day 2 of Onboarding when the went to purchase my home office equipment they didn’t offer to put it on a company credit, and/or order entirely suggesting it was “less of a hassle” for me to order it myself.. Which sent my C Suite Radar Buzzing and much to my disappointment I immediately realized that this is in fact a very elaborately designed scam. All in I received 5 company documents, received 3 Interview calls, and was apart of 2.5hr interview online that involved a lot of what I call “almost sophisticated” questioning.. Though I wasn’t entirely impressed by the questioning or the sense of authority wielded by the person on the pretending to their hiring officers, it was their cunningly false sincerity and warmth that caused me to believe that it was actually true.
