My mom googled “real ebay phone number” and unwittingly called it, looking to get a refund on her item. When she was having trouble with the process I got on her phone and tried to help her. The person on the phone told me I had to purchase gift cards (GooglePlay, Xbox, Vanilla) in order to generate an approval code for my mom to receive her purchase refund, as well as the denomination of the giftcards that I was instructed to purchase. They made me send text pictures of the giftcards each time and Made me believe I would be refunded for these giftcards as long as I complied with their directions. It got out of control when the scammers kept having “problems” with the giftcards (claiming session timed out, card not activating properly, IRS department needing their tax cut). It began with a request for $200 gift card, but as I continued to comply they continued to ask for higher denominations. I complied because I kept getting deeper in the hole. I bought the lie that if just did one more task I would get my refund. About 6 hours and $3500 later, my bank cancelled the card and I realized this was not Ebay and I had been tricked into laundering money for this fake company. The scammer identifies themselves in the text screenshot as Alex Cooper from Ebay customer support 805-420-2240.

On last week May13,2020 I answered an email about a motorcycle for sale.The seller said it was threw Ebay so I felt good about it.So she sent information on how the purchase would work. Ebay sent me an email on the sets.So I purchased 1200.00 worth of Ebay purchase cards.Then I was told to call this number 818-900-2637 after calling this number realize that wasn't Ebay customer service. But they Insisted they were Ebay motor sales.So I tried to call the number listed for Ebay customer service n just a recording never able to speak with anyone

Now I'm stuck with 1200.worth of Ebay purchase card
